Breakfast for Elite Honors members

In July 2021Hilton gave up on continental breakfastpreviously offered Hilton Gold and Diamond memberships at many US properties. Now you and up to one additional guest registered in your room may qualify for one of the following MyWay benefits if you are a Gold or Diamond Hilton Honors member:

• Daily food and beverage credit: For select brands in the US and Motto by Hilton worldwide; it is not provided if you have executive lounge access and breakfast is served in the lounge
• Complimentary continental breakfast: For select brands (except Motto by Hilton) outside the US.

To receive elite benefits, including MyWay benefits, you must book directly with Hilton or through an eligible global distribution service. Unfortunately, this usually excludes the majoritytravel portals using credit cards.

For these non-US brands, Hilton Gold and Diamond members and up to one additional guest staying in the same room can enjoy breakfast at the hotel's designated restaurant or Executive Lounge. I usually eat excellent breakfasts at international Hilton hotels.

Looks like I'm not alone: ​​TPG Points & Miles reporter Kyle Olsen told me the following about the last few breakfasts he had with the Hilton:

I have found that Hilton hotels often go above and beyond with their international breakfasts. During last month's stays at Doubletree London Greenwich and Conrad Algarve, both hotels offered a full buffet breakfast to the three adults staying in my room - which was better than the complimentary continental breakfast for two guests that the program typically offers to Elite Gold and Diamond members.

Hilton Food & Beverage Credit

Hilton Gold and Diamond members can use MyWay Benefit Daily Food & Beverage credit for stays at Motto by Hilton (usually $15 per person per night) and the following US brands:

• $25 per person per night:Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, LXR Hotels & Resorts i Conrad Hotels & Resorts
• $15 per person per night:Canopy by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Curio Collection by Hilton, DoubleTree by Hilton, Signia by Hilton, and Tapestry Collection by Hilton (although the price goes up to $18 per person per night in Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, New York; San Francisco, Key Largo and Key West Florida, Los Angeles and Hawaii)
• $10 per person per night:Hilton Garden Inn although you have to designate it as yoursUse MyWay online

These credits apply to Gold and Diamond members and up to one additional guest registered (and staying) in the same room. Food & Beverage Credit can only be used at designated hotel restaurants or Executive Lounges. While the Daily Food & Beverage Credit is accrued nightly and non-transferable, you can use the remaining amount on the billing date (up to the amount of the Daily Credit).

TPG's content director, Nick Ewen, isfan of daily Hilton food and beverage vouchers.He told me:

I'm actually a fan of more flexibility with US real estate. While I obviously wish the luxury resort credit was higher, it's great not to be forced to eat an unexciting continental breakfast, especially in a big city where there are more tempting brunch options nearby. Since its launch, I've been able to use my food and beverage credits for pre-dinner cocktails, lunch by the pool, and even snacks from the market before check-out - perfect for a long drive (or flight) home with my eight-year-old. - an old daughter who always seems to be hungry when traveling.

Hotels cannot cancel food and beverage creditsfor elite members if they want breakfast provided. For example, Motto by Hilton cannot choose to offer coffee and biscuits each morning in its cafeteria in lieu of the $15 per person daily food and beverage credit requirement.

If you don't like receiving food and beverage credits instead of free breakfast, you're not alone. TPG Editor-in-Chief Clint Henderson said:

I'm definitely not a fan of food and drink credits. I think hotels offer really terrible options... I've also had to fight several times to get my fees off my account, which is even more annoying. The front desk agents don't seem to know about it or what exactly it covers. I used it once or twice for lunch instead of breakfast, but it doesn't cover the whole meal (and sometimes even the main course).

Kyle shared Clint's view and noted that the food and beverage credit "rarely covers the price of a basic breakfast." This is apparently Kyle's biggest problem with food and drink credits; notes that he would be happy with the credit if it was high enough to cover the price of a continental breakfast after taxes and fees.

lounge access

If you have lounge access you can have breakfast in the lounge. However, you will not receive food and beverage credits while in the US if you have access to the Executive Lounge where breakfast is served.

How to earn Elite Hilton Honors status

To earn Hilton Gold status, you need 40 nights, 20 stays or 75,000 base points in a calendar year. To earn Hilton Diamond status, you need 60 nights, 30 stays or 120,000 Base Points in a calendar year.

However, some credit cards offer automatic paymentHilton honors elite status. Specifically, here are the cards that provide Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status as a bonus to the cardholder:
